Action of Mechanism:

Donepezil is a reversible inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase. This action increases the availability of acetylcholine (ACh) in the synaptic cleft to augment cholinergic transmission. This effect helps to improve cognitive function in some patients with dementia. Other inhibitors of cetylcholinesterase include galantamine and rivastigmine.
